Why has Falsterbo Horse Show become as significant as it is today? I would argue that two fundamental pillars have guided the event from the very beginning.

The first is this: it must be just as much Horse as it is Show.
That means the event offers something for everyone — even for those who are not primarily interested in the competitions. With show programmes across several arenas and an exhibition that includes not only equestrian equipment, but also design furniture and cars; a much‑loved family corner for children, rabbit jumping (!), live music, restaurants and cafés. And not least, our immensely popular After Ride in the large VIP tent in the evenings.

The second pillar comes from a phrase I once saw on a wall in Shanghai: Tradition and renewal.
Over the years, we have preserved the two Olympic disciplines of show jumping and dressage. At the same time, we have regularly updated and renewed competition formats and judging systems.

When the competitions changed their name and became international in the mid‑1980s, the venue consisted of a simple, roofless stand with seating for 250 spectators. The rest was standing room only. Since then, we have grown organically. Any surplus has been reinvested in the venue and in acquiring land. Today, we have 14 grandstands — most of them roofed — three major competition arenas, six training arenas, and we own 15 hectares of land, leasing the same amount again.

These pillars have shaped what is often referred to as the Falsterbo feeling, frequently highlighted by visitors from near and far. I believe it is a combination of top‑level equestrian sport, summer, the freedom to move across the entire showground, close proximity to horses and world‑class riders — and the closeness to the beach and the beautiful surroundings of Skanör‑Falsterbo. Many consider the Falsterbo feeling to be unique, and I am inclined to agree.

The Olympic gold medallist, European Champion, World Cup winner and Falsterbo Derby champion Steve Guerdat of Switzerland sums up Falsterbo Horse Show like this:

“I love Falsterbo. Every year I’m very excited to come back here and I feel so good in this arena, in this atmosphere. I enjoy this competition so much.”
